Rape is wrong. Is there even a whiff of question about that? There is no distinction on “types” of rape. Rape is wrong, wrong, wrong. Former GOP Congressmen like Todd Akin and Richard Mourdock didn’t seem to get it, and neither does current GOP Congressman Phil Gingrey.
According to the Marietta Daily Journal, Congressman Gingrey brought the subject up again yesterday in Smyrna, GA. He almost apologetically rather hemmed and hawed about Todd Akin’s infamous “legitimate rape comment. These guys need to learn how to be unequivocal when it matters.
So just in case they didn’t hear it the first time; we don’t care if in your mind the rape was divinely inspired by God, Zeus, or Thor, any rape is horrific, immoral, and wrong.
In addition, pregnancy as a result of rape is devastating. It’s real. Congressman Gingrey as an OB/GYN, should know better than to even hint that someone else’s theology or worse, the government, should trump the very real future of a rape victim. Other than to offer our heartfelt sympathy and support, when it comes to the victim, we all need to get out of it and stay out of it.
If the victim of this horrible crime, and it is a horrible crime perpetrated by horrible criminals, truly believes that the near microscopic clump of cells in her uterus called a zygote, no bigger than the period at the end of this sentence, suddenly constitutes life (as opposed to say the “living” gametes that formed it, or any of the other trillions of DNA carrying living cells in the human body), then let that be her choice. No organization, not the GOP, not the church, not the government, better dare interfere.
